Audi A8 comes in three variants - A8 4.2 quattro, A8 L 4.2 quattro, and A8 L W12 quattro. Audi A8 has 4-wheel drive and is equipped with 4-litre V8 engine. A8 4.2 quattro and A8 L 4.2 quattro generate an output of 335 hp @ 6500 rpm and a torque of 317 lb-ft @ 3500 rpm. A8 L W12 quattro generate an output of 450 hp @ 6200 rpm and a torque of 428 lb-ft @ 4000 - 4700 rpm.

Audi A8 comes with state-of-the art safety features. These include: anti-lock brake system with vacuum power assist, electronic brake-pressure Distribution (EBD) and hydraulic brake assist, head protection airbag supplemental restraints for front and rear occupants, driver and front passenger dual-stage and dual-threshold airbag supplemental restraints, driver and front passenger knee protection airbags, front 3-point safety belts with automatic pre-tensioning, height adjustable upper mounts and force limiters, and 3 rear 3-point safety belts with automatic pre-tensioning.
